Omobolanle was slain yesterday in Lagos while attempting to turn around beneath the Ajah Bridge. Bolanle who allegedly went out with her family for a Christmas party, was shot dead by a trigger-happy police officer, after which she lost a short battle for her life.

The Youth Ambassador described the incident as an unfortunate one. In his words, “these vile and abhorrent men in uniform are becoming more and more brazen and disrespectful of the law by the day.”

He further averred, “The Nigerian Police Force’s promise to look into this tragedy must result in justice, and the police officers must be tried in open, unbiased, independent court proceedings.”

Stressing further, he said, “A person’s right to life is the most sacred of all rights. No human is to be deprived of his/her right to life unless in circumstances permitted by law. The mere appearance of the facts arising from the unfortunate incident is testament to the fact that a human being has been unlawfully deprived of her right to life; and justice must not just be done but be seen to actually be done!”

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased. Indeed, her death is a colossal loss; not only to her family but to the legal profession, the country and humanity at large”, he added.

In rounding off his address, he called on the President of the Nigerian Bar Association and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that Justice is not just done but manifestly seen to be done.

Pay attention this was not the first time similar situations have occurred in recent times. Only 7th of this month, a Mr Gafaru Buraimoh met his end under the same sad circumstances in the same axis. This has to mark the end.
